Platelet Rich Plasma Injections Los Angeles

What is Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy (PRP)?

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy is an emerging, non-surgical treatment that relieves pain by enhancing healing of musculoskeletal conditions.  Used in several fields including orthopedics and sports medicine, PRP is also used in non-surgical orthopedics where your own blood is modified in such a way that it produces concentrated doses of the body’s healing ingredients stored in the platelets.  These “Growth Factors” are then injected in to regions of the body to stimulate and promote healing – quite unlike Cortisone shots, PRP therapy actually heals injured areas of the body.

PRP is a rapidly growing treatment that is showing to be effective with osteoarthritis of the knee, shoulder, spine and hip, ACL rotator cuff tears, chronic plantar fasciitis, pelvic pain, back/neck injuries, tendonitis, tennis elbow, ankle and ligament sprains.

What are common conditions that can be treated with PRP Therapy?

How does PRP therapy help the body?

Once there is a soft tissue injury, the body begins to deliver platelet cells to the injured area.  These platelets are imbued with growth factors, which start to repair and recruit the help of stem cells. PRP therapy

The body’s first response to soft tissue injury is to deliver platelet cells. Packed with growth and healing factors, platelets initiate repair and attract the critical assistance of stem cells.  PRP therapy is the purely natural process using the body’s own healing factors – with intensified platelets.

The patients own blood is drawn in a small sample small sample (eliminating risk of transmissible infection and mitigating risk of allergic reaction) and spun in a centrifuge that separates the platelets, concentrating them with Growth Factors that assist in healing.  This concentrated platelet rich plasma (PRP) is then injected into the injured area, activating and enhancing the healing process.
